This is a recurrent discussion about what an MX-5 Shooting Brake might look like.  There are many reasons to like a shooting brake: structural rigidity, aerodynamics, protection from the elements (hot and cold), but perhaps the biggest is simply you need to carry a bit more junk than a ragtop will allow.  Thus this was a quick sketch I knocked out the other night after another discussion about how cool it would be to have an MX-5 with a jumpseat and some extra storage.

There are lots of interesting examples in the category from BMW-Zs, CRXs, the MBG-RT and the Trimuph GT-6.  Not to mention the Volvo P-1800.  Come on Mazda, you can do it.
